Group 5: Stitch it up

Hello everyone!

To create a card using Stitching (Faux or Real)

Hello all Shawna here! I have added a tutorial for some inspiration. Enjoy and hope to see you soon!

Finished card highlighting stitching

Details showing the shimmer and shine of the thread and sentiment

Here is pictorial tutorial how I made this card:

These are some of the materials to get you started.
Lightly trace the stencil to your paper.
TIP: Use a very heavyweight paper.
I used 110lb weight paper for this project.
Make sure you some cushion (foam or a piercing mat) under your project so you can pierce through the paper with ease. Use some sort measuring system like a T-square and/or piercing template. I would suggest using grid paper if none of these supplies are not available. As you are piercing make sure you pierce directly across the previous puncture.
After all the piercing is done thread your needle.
I would probably get a thimble to save your fingers.

Start from the back and tape the end to the paper.

Taping the end will decrease bulkiness of your project.
You can also secure it by looping through the thread too.

Using only one color of DMC thread seemed a bit flat.
So I undid the entire thing and started over...
...With three colors instead. It adds depth and texture
and looks so much better.
Instead of stitching the star I wanted to stitch around the star
thought it have more interest. Plus, you can add a sentiment!
Colored 'peace' using a blue alcohol marker
Then added a mist of shimmer with Perfect Pearls and water
I know it doesn't look pretty but no one
looks at the backside of the panel
right? :)
Trimmed the pane and added to the card base leaving the top
longer. then scored the card on top and folded down the flap...
...And added it to another sheet of paper.
This is a good way to create large cards.
Trimmed it down with a craft knife.
And WA-LA! The card is done!
The multicolor DMC thread gives it so much texture and color!
Wow this project DESTROYED my craft area!
Look at that craft area!! Time to clean up!!

Funny story: I showed my husband the finished card with my eyes asking 'what do you think?'. He ponders it for bit and very matter-of-fact replies 'It looks like those old tube lawn chairs. Remember?'.. He walks away leaving me standing there looking at the card saying 'Oh my gosh, he is right!'.

Remember? Oh yes I remember!
