Group 3: Metallics

Hello everyone!
Thank you for stopping by House of Cards Challenge Blog today!

Our current challenge is...
Use metallics on your card

We're going to start you out with a little something to get your creativity going!
Here's Dotty Jo with her "Shaker Card" Tutorial:

Hi, its Jo here with a short tutorial which I think I'll call:
How I made my shaker card!

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to making shaker cards but I
thought I'd share a few tips which seem to work for me.

My first top tip is to use Funky Foam to form the 'reservoir' for the sequins.
I saw Jennifer McGuire use this technique to create a shaker card
and was impressed with how easy and fuss-free this method appeared.

I die-cut my top card and used the next die down to cut the foam panel.

The foam panel fits neatly behind the top panel and is totally invisible from the front.

Then I cut a circle in my top panel to act as the window.

Before cutting a circle in the foam panel I held everything up to the light
and positioned a larger die to cover the window. I taped this to the foam
ready for die cutting.

In the picture above you can see how neat and tidy things look from behind.
In the next picture you can see that the foam is completely
invisible yet gives a feeling of stability to the front panel.

To make the window I cut a rough circle from acetate being careful to make sure it was large enough to cover the aperture on the front panel. This will be sandwiched between the front panel and the foam so any rough edges are completely hidden. (Make sure your layers go: Top panel, acetate, foam panel.)

Then I picked a selection of sequins to complement my metallic colour combo
and positioned them carefully before sticking the top layers to the card base.

A few finishing touches and the card is complete!

I hope this quick tutorial inspires YOU to make your own shaker card or cards.
It's a super easy method which guarantees good results.

Group 2: Metallics

Hello everyone!
Thank you for stopping by House of Cards Challenge Blog today!

This month, the challenge is...

To create a card with using this word cue~

We're going to start you out with a little something to get your creativity going!
Here's Em with "Heat Embossed Faux Letterpress" Tutorial:

Hi everyone, it's Em. I'm honored to be representing Group 2 and bringing you the pictorial for how to create the card you can see from me, above...

You'll need Versamark ink, embossing powder (I've used Stampin' Up's Gold), an embossing folder (I've used SU's Boho Chic, a folded card blank, panel and extra for stampin' (I've used SU's Whisper White)

Open the EF and apply Versamark ink to the raised detail

Carefully lay the card panel onto the folder and press to transfer the ink

Lift the piece off and heat emboss with powder of choice

Stamp your chosen sentiment (I've used one of my favorites from SU's Me = Grateful set) in Versamark onto the spare card

Heat emboss the sentiment

Using a metallic marker (I've used one from Paper Mania), add detail to both the faux letterpress panel and the sentiment

Die cut or punch the sentiment (I've used SU's Deco Labels Framelits)

For a finishing touch color some pearls with the marker, leave to dry for a few minutes while you attach panel and sentiment to the card (I've lifted both with dimensionals). Add the pearls to the card and you're done!

Group 1: Metallics

Hello everyone!
Thank you for stopping by House of Cards Challenge Blog today!

This month, the challenge is to create a card with using this word cue~

We're going to start you out with a little something to get your creativity going! Here's Sue T.  with a "Embossed Aluminum Tape" Tutorial!

Here is a photo tutorial on how I created this shiny silvery card:

I used a roll of aluminum tape and a piece of cardboard. ( the cardboard backing from a pack of StampinUp paper worked perfect!)

Using this set of dies from Julie Ebersole, I die cut several flowers and leaves. Depending on your die cutting machine you may need an extra shim. I have a Big Shot and still used an extra metallic shim.

Create a pleasing arrangement. Then apply some strips of double sided tape on the card and adhere the die cuts back on the card.

Lay the metallic tape over the die cuts on the card stock panel.

Apply a second strip of the tape so the die cuts are completely covered. Yes, I know you are going to say, "Sue T. there is a piece of the die showing." I know, I trimmed that section off to keep the strips of tape to two.

Using your finger go over the tape and press the tape down on the card base, so the image appears.

Using a ball tip stylus go back and really define the image.

Once that is all done I highlighted the flowers and leaves with Copic markers which will dry on the aluminum tape.
